Linda...Queen for a Day...

And every day in my book.  Linda is one of the most amazing women I have ever met.  She is very funny and just a great person to talk to.  I hope you enjoyed every minute...espeically that head massage!  LOL.  Here is a before and after picture.  I will have more pictures up from the day soon.  Thanks for being a REMARKABLE woman, Linda.  And Shamary, you aren't so bad either!  *wink wink*  You are a wonderful daughter in law.   You two are both great people!

Winner of the

Congratulations to Linda Thiessen for winning the grand prize and congrats to Sue Dixon, the runner up.  There were a lot of great entries and we wish we could give the prize to everyone!  It was such a pleasure and joy to call and surprise the winners.  We can't wait until July 17th when you have your big day Linda!!  And Sue, can't wait until we get to do your special day as well.  I am sure we will have more contests like this in the future so be sure to join my mailing list to receive updates and special announcements.

Linda Thiessen was nominated by Shamary Hampton and this is her winning letter:

"I nominate my mother-in-law, Linda Thiessen, for the "Queen for a Day Contest."  Linda is the strongest woman I have ever known.  She is an excellent mother to her three children who she always supports, even in their adult life.  She never judges anyone.  Linda is a breast cancer survivor.  Most recently, she helped care for 6 granddaughters for a couple of years while her daughter dealt with issues in her life and at the same time returned to school in her late 50s.  After a couple of difficult divorces early in her life, she raised her three children by herself, completed a Bachelors Degree in Business, and held a full-time job (sometimes more than one).  She is now 62 and is completing a second college degree in order to start a new career in the IT industry despite being retired.  She's an amazing woman whose attitute to life is inspiring to others.  She's the person I look up to the most.  I always say that when I grow up I want to be just like her.  For these and many other reasons I feel that Linda truly deserves to be "Queen for a Day!"

Sue Dixon was nominated by James Dixon and this is part of his runner up letter:

"I have many reasons for nomination.  First and foremost being that she is, without a doubt, a supermom.  She is raising my 2-year old nephew even though she suffers from Fibromyalgia.  Mom just turned 55 in May and should be taking life easy and kicking back, but she doesn't have the time.

My mom seems to always put others before herself.  My sister Stephani was in a bad car accident in 1996 that left her in a bad way.  Mom helped nurse her back to health over a long period of time.  Now, as Stephani can't take care of her child, my Mom stepped up into that position.

During the flood of '08, Mom helped a lot of people out with a vast array of things.  She cooked food for people, gave them a place to stay, let them store their belongings in her garages for nothing."

Thanks again to everyone who sent in nominations.  We were overwhelmed by all of the goodness some people do and how people put others needs in front of their own.  Congrats to the winners...you are an inspiration to us all.

We are looking for photos of any relief efforts from all over the U.S.  Any thing from the wildfires in California to the hurricanes in Texas to the flooding and tornadoes in Iowa.

Please help in our efforts by submitting photos you have taken of any relief efforts, the storms, people helping each other, etc.

Please submit photos to amy_tobiasphotography@yahoo.com.  Be sure to include your full name, phone number, where and when the photo was taken, and a complete description of the photo.  Please use the original size photo when you send in your picture.  We will look over all photos and if your photo is chosen to be included in the calendar we will ask that you fill out a release form.  This MUST be signed in order to be used.  Photos will not be credited due to the amount of pictures that will be used.  We will choose one photo to be on the cover and that one will be credited.  All businesses donating $50 or more will be credited on my website as well as the calendar.

Check back often as we will be offering the calendars to purchase soon.  If you have any questions please use the form to email me.  See the info below for information about the Red Cross.

Since January 2008, the Red Cross has responded to thousands of house fires and more than 60 large scale-disasters?hurricanes, floods, tornadoes and wildfires?which have steadily depleted the Disaster Relief Fund.

  • The big, visible disasters easily spur people to help disaster victims. But when the media attention wanes, we struggle to pay for the services we provide.
  • There is a perception Louisiana ?dodged a bullet? from Hurricane Gustav. The reality is the Red Cross is still on the ground feeding and sheltering those who returned to find their homes damaged or without power.
  • As the Red Cross continues helping individuals and families affected by the 2008 storms and hurricanes: Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gustav and Hanna, Hurricane Ike crashed into Gulf Shore communities then up through the Midwest ? leveling neighborhoods, submerging homes, and leaving many families and individuals with nothing except what they brought with them to disaster shelters..
  • The Red Cross is standing ready to provide more than 400,000 meals a day and thousands of clean-up and comfort kits.

·        We are working on ways to cut expenses without cutting services. So far, this cost cutting includes: consolidating warehouse space, using technology that further automates our casework process, and placing a greater emphasis on using local volunteers and utilizing partner resources.

·        The Disaster Relief Fund gives people the chance to help anywhere in the nation. Whenever and wherever disaster strikes, the Disaster Relief Fund will ensure that Red Cross help comes quickly.

·        To ensure the Red Cross continues its help for disaster victims, we need your help. We are calling on everyone to support the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which allows the Red Cross to provide help whenever and wherever disasters occur.

Holiday Portrait Party
I am having a holiday portriat party on November 9th in Burlington.  It will be 9-4:30 at the Port of Burlington.  Space is limited!!!!!!!  It will be $15 for a mini session...about 15 minutes long.  I will have activities to keep kiddos busy and will have a couple of contests going on, as well as some refreshments.  One prize will be a Bronze Portrait Package.

You will be able to purchase the pictures either through package or ala carte.  I will be offering CDs as well.

Please call me at 319.759.9791 or email me a time that is good for you and I will either write you down or suggest a time that is open!  Please leave me your phone number in case I need to call for questions.  Also, let me know who all will be in the photos.  I will also call to confirm your spot a few days ahead of time.  If you need to cancel your time slot, PLEASE let me know ASAP so I can fill it with someone else who may be on a waiting list.  Please come about 15 minutes early so we can talk about what you want to do, payments, etc.  If you do NOT show up on time, you may be giving up your spot to someone else who is waiting.  Thank you for understanding.

If you do not get a time and would still like to come and do the activies that would be great!  You can also get into the contests!  I would love to meet you and maybe you can schedule your OWN portrait party or private session.  If there is a no show then maybe we can squeeze you in!

Tell your friends, family, etc and call and schedule.  Babies, teens, familys *up to 5*, grandparents, pets, etc, are all welcome.  Please let me know what kind of a shoot you are signing up for!!!

Thanks!
Amy Tobias
